Citizenship Ceremony
On September 8, 2011, we held our second Citizenship Ceremony here at ISIS! 25 immigrants from 15 different countries were sworn in as Canadian citizens as family and friends looked on. Traces of Companion and Memory, August 22-26
Traces of Companion and Memory is an art exhibition showcasing artwork produced by immigrant parents and their teens during a four-session workshop facilitated by the art educator Rodrigo Hernandez. Fifteen immigrant families from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Colombia, Cuba and Syria made drawings to express their view of themselves and their communities, the things they care about and their dreams. Neighbourhood Bus Tour
Last week ISIS hosted another successful Neighbourhood Bus Tour! There were thirty newcomers, many of whom belonged to the Bhutanese community and have only been here for six months or so, three linguistic interpreters (Russian, Chinese and Bhutanese), as well as three ISIS staff members.
The tour provided an opportunity for newcomers and community service providers to meet and welcome one another. This connection also provided our clients with a chance to ask pressing questions — mainly ones regarding how to access and utilize available services…
