Sahar AL-Khairi

My name is Sahar Khairi. I am from Jordan. I’ve been here in Canada for two years and a half, and my profession is mechanical engineer.

Back home I worked as a mechanical engineer. The experience I bring with me is designing HVAC systems, that are heating, ventilation, and air conditioning for different buildings and commercial projects. In order to find my current job, I approached ISIS, they found me a work placement at SNC Lavalin, where I worked for six weeks after which the company offered me a full time job, which I am currently at.

Well, the differences that I found working in Canada are not much in terms of mechanical engineering, since same international code of practices are followed. However, when it comes to local codes and practices there are some differences.

The suggestions that I have for other newcomers in my profession are setting their goals and then approaching the right people which are in this case is ISIS and to take any available work placement, even if it is without compensation, as a first step towards securing a job. Well, the good things of working here is that you are exposed to a new working atmosphere, get to know people and widening your horizon.

I am happy with my decision of coming to work here because I am really working in my field and gaining the experience that a mechanical engineer needs.
