English for the Community
ISIS offers classes to help immigrants learn English for living in the community. These are also known as LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) classes. This program provides childcare for immigrants who need it in order to attend classes.
Begin with the Basics English program will help you develop your general English skills for day to day living. For example, these skills can help you with: making a doctor’s appointment, asking for help in a supermarket, or getting a library card.
After you improve your basic English skills, Build on the Basics English program will help you increase your vocabulary and develop more complex language structures for broader communication in the community. Some examples are: volunteering at an organization, writing a cover letter, or filling out an application for further education.
