English as an Additional Language Literacy

This program is for immigrants with little or no formal education. There are three levels in this program.

You will have more time and support in this program to learn how to read and write in English, and to develop listening and speaking skills.

Some of the literacy skills you will learn in this program are:

  • reading from left to right
  • writing lower and upper case letters
  • reading survival signs
  • writing basic personal information
  • sounding out words
  • spelling
  • learning strategies
Family Learning

The Family Learning Program allows immigrants and their children to learn reading and writing skills together for part of the class. Learning together helps parents see the importance of reading and writing and gives them the confidence to help their children with their homework.

In this program, you will study the same topics as in the Basic English classes, and learn the literacy skills that are taught in English as an Additional Language Literacy.
