March 7 – Intro to Law Part 1

March 14 – Intro. to Law Part 2

March 21 – Law on Poverty

March 28 – Family Violence

April 4 – Family Law

April 11 – Youth and the Law

April 18 – Immigration Law

April 25 – Child Protection Law

May 2 – Employment Law

May 9 – Human Rights Law

May 16 – Criminal Law

May 23 – Refugee Law

May 30 – Closing Ceremony

Interpreters and childcare are available upon request. We will hold a recognition event at the end of the series and issue certificates to those who have attended ten sessions.

Special thanks to the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society for their financial donation in support of the Legal Workshop Series.

- Job Search Workshop client

“I would like to let you know that my sense to English writing has changed completely, and I fill more self confidence to express my opinions in English same as my first language…In fact, the accumulative knowledge that I have gained it was not only critical and selective, for meet our daily writing needs, but also it was excellent support for academic writing too. Moreover, this course enriches my vocabulary and gives me confidence during my speaking with others. Also, everybody around me can notice the improvement that I have gained in my language skills speaking and writing.”

Margaret Pidlaski, director of the Adult Language Training Branch of Manitoba Immigration, died tragically over Christmas in a bus crash while on a holiday visit to Peru. Margaret was a leader in English language training for newcomers and although living in Manitoba, Margaret’s influence was felt across the country. She had friends, colleagues and contacts in most provinces, was a mentor to many and was well known and respected for sharing the expertise and resources that have made Manitoba, under her guidance, a leader in language training in Canada. ISIS and immigrants in our community will continue to benefit from Margaret’s generosity of spirit and collaborative nature for a long time to come. At this very difficult time for all who loved and respected Margaret so much, we would like to offer our thoughts and best wishes.
