Building a Community Free of Intimate Partner Abuse: The Immigrant Perspective

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
11:30am – 2pm

In memory of Dr. Ottilia Chareka, a rebel woman who lived guided by the principles of faith, hope, perseverance and resilience.

Intimate partner abuse affects all of us, but being an immigrant brings new and different challenges for those who are born in Canada. In this seminar, Carmen Celina Moncayo, ISIS Family counselor, will facilitate a conversation about the unique experience of immigrant women abused by their partners and the different strategies we as a community can develop to prevent abuse by supporting newcomer women and men to create healthy relationships and to protect women who are abused by their partners.

Cost: $30.00 (includes a Korean lunch buffet)
Song’s Korean Restaurant, 6249 Quinpool Road, Halifax

Speakers/Facilitators: Carmen Celina Moncayo is the ISIS Family Support Program Coordinator. As a Community Psychologist, Carmen Celina has been working for more than 20 years in family violence prevention as a counselor, adult educator, researcher and policy analyst in Colombia and in Canada.
