Traces of Companion and Memory is an art exhibition showcasing artwork produced by immigrant parents and their teens during a four-session workshop facilitated by the art educator Rodrigo Hernandez.
Fifteen immigrant families from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Colombia, Cuba and Syria made drawings to express their view of themselves and their communities, the things they care about and their dreams.
During the sessions, parents and teens had the opportunity to explore how each of them perceives the other members of the family, to create imaginary characters and places and to share memories about places that are significant in their lives.
This was a project done in partnership with ISIS, the YMCA Immigrant Programs Center, the Saint Andrew’s Community Center and the Keshen Goodman Library. The project was funded by CIC.
