Community Volunteers

The Community Volunteer program offers support to immigrants as they settle in Canada.
How It Works
You will be matched with a Community Volunteer and you will meet once a week for two hours (minimum 6 months) for conversation, friendship, and introduction into your new community. ISIS will try to match you with a volunteer who has similar interests and is the same gender.
There are three Community Volunteer match options:
- individual
- family to family
- 55 +
Community Volunteers will help by:
- practicing skills that will help you with daily family activities
- practicing conversation in English
- sharing a home-cooked meal
- introducing you to people and places in the community (historical sites, community centers, parks)
- talking and learning about each others traditions and customs
- exchanging ideas, information and resources
- being a new friend
Volunteers are screened and receive training from ISIS. The first meeting usually takes place at ISIS or in your home. Weekly meetings take place at a time and place that suits everyone.
